TOYOTA KEY FOB REMOTE STEP-BY-STEP HOW TO PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare Vehicle for Programming
With the key OUT of the Ignition, OPEN and UNLOCK the Driver’s door.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 1
Perform the following steps within 5 seconds:
a. INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn) and PULL the key out.
b. INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn) and PULL the key out.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 2
PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:
a. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.
b. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.
c. INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn) and PULL the key out.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 3
PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:
a. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.
b. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.
c. INSERT the key into the Ignition and LEAVE it in the Ignition.
d. CLOSE the Driver’s door.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 4
TURN the Ignition to ON position (Do NOT crank engine) then back OFF.
DO this ONCE to retain existing remotes programmed and ADD NEW remote..
DO this TWICE to ERASE all existing remotes programmed and ADD NEW remote.
DO this THREE times to CHECK how many remotes are programmed to the vehicle.
DO this FIVE times to ERASE all existing remotes programmed. -
Enter Programming Mode – Step 5
REMOVE key from Ignition. The power door locks will respond by cycling the locks from LOCK/UNLOCK to signal successful entry into Programming Mode.

Program Remote(s)
Perform the following steps within 40 seconds:
a. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 2 seconds. RELEASE.
b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button and hold for 2 seconds. RELEASE.
The vehicle will respond by cycling the locks from LOCK to UNLOCK to indicate successful programming of the remote.

Program Additional Remote(s)
REPEAT Step 7 for any additional remotes to be programmed, including working ones.

Exit Programming Mode
OPEN Driver’s Door to EXIT Programming Mode.

Test Remote(s)
TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.

- You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
- Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
- If you have a remote head key with a transponder chip, this procedure will ONLY program the remote portion. You’ll need a Professional Auto Locksmith to cut and program the transponder key that will start the vehicle.
- If you have a remote head key without a transponder chip, this procedure WILL work for your vehicle.
- This procedure DOES NOT work for smart proximity remote key fobs.

Prepare Vehicle for Programming
With the key OUT of the Ignition, OPEN and UNLOCK the Driver’s door.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 1
INSERT key into Ignition (Do NOT turn it) and REMOVE key.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 2
PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:
a. Using the power lock switch on the driver’s door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second (1 Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).
b. CLOSE then OPEN Driver’s door.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 3
PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:

c. TURN ignition to ON (Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.

DO this FIVE times to ERASE all existing remotes programmed.d. REMOVE key from Ignition.

Enter Programming Mode – Step 4
WITHIN 3 seconds the Power Door Locks should cycle LOCK/UNLOCK to signal successful entry into Programming Mode.

Program Remote(s)
PERFORM the following steps WITHIN 40 seconds:
a. PRESS the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1 second.
b. PRESS and HOLD the LOCK button for 2 seconds. The Door Locks will cycle LOCK/UNLOCK to indicate successful programming of the remote.

Program Additional Remote(s)
REPEAT Steps 6a and 6b for any additional remotes to be programmed.

EXIT Programming Mode
CLOSE Driver’s Door to EXIT Programming Mode.

Test Remote(s)
TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.

Thank you very much for the information. The instructions I received from the manufacturer (or distributor perhaps) did not include the details for the double cab 2006 Tundra. I tried 10-12 times to get the new fobs programmed, with no success. After “googling” your site, I noticed a slight difference in procedure for the double cab and it worked the first time! Programing didn’t work on my 2006 Tundra I tried taking the battery out
So I bought and extra key fob for my 2006 Tundra Double cab forever ago (like 10 years, I don’t even remember from who). The point was I was never able to get my truck into programming mode. Today I cam across the useless fob and on a whim I searched again and your site was the first return result. I read through the first set of instructions (for the regular cab) I thought “yeah I did that 50 times it doesn’t work” Then I saw your note on the double cab and went through those steps. HOLY $&%! It works work I was able to re-program the truck to accept my new and old remotes. This is awesome. For anyone else follow the instructions exactly they work!
